Free CC0 pixel-art item icon generator
CrunchyItem makes pixel-art item icons for games, in your browser: weapons, shields, armour, potions, scrolls, keys, gems, food, herbs, chests, runes, spells and more, at 16, 24 and 32 pixels. Pick an item from the strip or press Randomize, give each part a material, swap its parts, add an enchant or a rarity, and export it on its own or as a whole set.
It is made for hobbyist game developers: people with a game to finish who don't have the time to become a pixel artist too. A set comes ready for the engine: sheets at every size with a JSON file of every icon's rect, a Godot 4 texture per icon, and an IconSet in RPG Maker MV and MZ's layout. Every icon is a plain PNG as well, for Unity, GameMaker or your own engine.
Every icon is drawn by code from seeded shapes, materials and colour ramps: no generative AI, no samples and no bundled art, and nothing you make leaves your machine. Everything CrunchyItem makes for you is CC0: use it in any game, commercial included, with no attribution. The web version is free and has every feature.
What it does
- 58 item families in 343 styles, each with its own parts, materials and add-ons
- Breeding: cross two families, a sword with a potion or a key with a mushroom, and pick from nine hybrids
- 30 enchants, from fire, ice and lightning to void, prismatic and time, each with an Amount slider and 10 colours
- Rarity tiers from worn and common up to epic and legendary, each with its own trim
- One-click kits of items that go together: RPG Starter, Potion Pack, Weapon Rack, Alchemist, Dungeon Loot, Spellbook, Status Effects and more, each rerolled slot by slot and downloaded as one set
- Animated effects (shimmer, sparkle, flame, glow and more) as Godot and Unity URP 2D shaders and as baked frame strips
- Eras that crush the colours to an older console's (Super, Mega, 8-Bit, Pocket, Virtual, 1-Bit), and CRT scanlines
Questions
Is CrunchyItem free for commercial use?
Yes. Everything CrunchyItem makes for you is CC0, which puts it in the public domain: use it in commercial games, edit it and ship it, with no attribution and no royalties. The web version is free and has every feature.
Does CrunchyItem use AI?
No. Every icon is drawn by hand-written code from seeded shapes, materials and colour ramps. There is no generative AI in what it makes, and no sampled or bundled art.
Does it work with Godot and RPG Maker?
Yes. A set comes with a Godot 4 AtlasTexture per icon, so each one loads as its own texture, and an IconSet.png in RPG Maker MV and MZ's layout of 32 px icons, 16 to a row, with steps for pasting it into your project's own. Every Godot export is checked by loading it into a real headless Godot.
Does it work with Unity and other engines?
Yes. Every icon is a PNG at 16, 24 and 32 px, and sheet.json gives each icon's rect, where a hand holds it and where it points, so any engine can read it. Animated effects come as Godot shaders, Unity URP 2D shaders, and baked frame strips that play anywhere.
What sizes are the icons?
16, 24 and 32 pixels square, exported together. Eras crush the colours to what an older console could show, from Super and Mega to 8-Bit, Pocket, Virtual and 1-Bit, with optional CRT scanlines, in the preview and in every export. Icons can also be saved as Aseprite files, switched on in Settings.
